Robert F. Johnson 1932-2024

CORTLAND — Robert F. Johnson, 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1932, in Moss Grove, Pa., to the late Frank R. and Una Edna Grafton Johnson.

He was a 1950 graduate of Bazetta High School. He married his wife, Mary Jo Hall in 1967. Together they attended Cortland Christian Church. He drove semis for various companies for 44 years until his retirement. In his retirement, he began driving buses for Community Bus Services. He was also a 70-year member of the Cortland Masonic Lodge #529.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Johnson; his parents; daughter, Julie A. Gardner; infant sisters, Karen Johnson and Sharen Totten; brother, Clair (Florence) Johnson; and brothers-in-law, Nick Bellitt and Rudy Laurich.

He survived by his children, Darren (Lynne) Johnson, Ronna (Anthony) Nazarini, Judene (Greg) Ainsley and Jill Coen (Jim Coen, deceased); grandchildren, Amanda (Jamie) Bland, Abbie (Dan) Lawrence, Jacob Johnson, Julianne Johnson, James (Sarah) Coen Jr., Alicia (Jeremy) Coen; great-grandchildren, Brooklynne Bland, Keegan Bland, Rylan Bland, Cooper Lawrence, Elliana Lawrence, Marlei Coen-Young and Kaydence Coen; great-great-grandchildren, Cassius Parker and Mireya Parker; son-in-law, Jim (Beth) Gardner; sisters, Kathleen Laurich and Erma Jean Bellitt; brothers, Kenneth (Marge) Johnson, James (Judy) Johnson and Donald (Gail) Johnson; and brother-in-law, Neil Totten.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Patriot at Home, Mark Schuller and Patriot Hospice Nurses, who went above and beyond; CareBuilders, Angel Care and aide, Avery; and also special thanks to “adopted daughter” Sandy McCaren, for love and devotion to both Bob and Mary Jo.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cortland Christian Church.

Calling hours will take place noon to 1:45 p.m. with a Masonic service at 1:45 p.m., provided by the Cortland Masonic Lodge 529, on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Lane Funeral Home, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St., Cortland, OH 44410.

A graveside service and interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 5, 2024, in Dugan Cemetery, Fowler.
