Mario J. Gioiello 2000-2024

GIRARD — Mario J. Gioiello, 23, left us unexpectedly, Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, while heading out on another Alaskan adventure. He is now flying with the angels rather than in the skies of Ohio and Alaska.

He was born Dec. 31, 2000, in Youngstown, as part of the “Gio Trio” triplets, including sisters, Elena Jo and Jolena Marie, the children of Joseph and Sonia D’Amico Gioiello.

Mario attended Niles McKinley High School and participated in many sports and clubs including cross country, track, ski club and prep bowl. Mario graduated in 2019 as one of six valedictorians.

After high school, he attended Kent State University to pursue his plans to be a pilot. While at Kent, he was a member of the flight team and safety crew. He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in aeronautics.

After graduating college, he worked for Avit Aviation at the Akron-Canton and Wadsworth airports. The following year, he began splitting his time between Avit in Ohio and Yute Commuter Service in Bethel, Alaska.

Mario loved to “live his life.” From riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers to snow skiing, flying, skydiving, repelling and ice mountain climbing, he was always looking for his next adventure. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing from Lake Erie to the Gulf of Mexico, and from the streams of Kent to the rivers in Alaska he was able to enjoy his hobbies.

Mario was a member of St. Pope John XXIII Parish-Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where he was a festival volunteer for years.

He will be deeply missed by his parents and sisters, all of Girard; along with paternal grandmother, Betty Gioiello, of Niles and maternal grandmother, Sharon D’Amico, of Cortland; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Neil Gioiello; and maternal grandfather, Peter D’Amico.

Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home, Niles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at St. Pope John XXIII Parish-Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 381 Robbins Ave., Niles, OH 44446.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you perform a random act of kindness, in memory of Mario.

Arrangements are being handled by the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles. Family and friends can visit www.josephrossifuneralhome.com to view this obituary and send condolences to Mario’s family.
