Kent Barrett Barnes Sr. 1959-2024

WARREN — Kent Barrett Barnes Sr., 65, of Lodwick Drive, NW, departed this life at 1:44 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at his residence, following complications of a short illness.

He was born April 30, 1959, in Warren, the son of Wilbert Charles and Regina Hines Barnes.

Kent was employed with Exal Corporation for five years as a tow motor driver before retiring in 2015. He was a former employee at Delphi Packard Electric, working as a foreman and American Welding Corporation, working as a laborer.

He graduated in 1977 from Warren Western Reserve High School, where he was a basketball, track and baseball standout; in 2005 from Grace Theological Seminary, receiving a master’s degree in theology; and in 2008, also at Grace Theological Seminary, with a degree in Divinity.

He was the pastor of the One Nation Kingdom Ministries; former youth pastor at the New Jerusalem Fellowship Church; and former deacon and YPW president at the St. James Church of God in Christ. He enjoyed reading and sports, and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan.

He married Danova Armstrong Barnes on Nov. 30, 2002.

Besides his wife of Warren, he leaves to mourn him three sons, District Elder Kent Barrett (Camille) Barnes Jr. of Canfield, Dean Anthony Michael Barnes of Canton and Anthony (Catherine) Armstrong of Yokosuka, Japan; one daughter, Ms. Da’Nazja Dalisha Barnes of Columbus; three brothers, Jonathan Barnes, Roger Barnes and Jeffrey Barnes, all of Warren; two sisters, Ms. Ella Barnes of Cortland and Ms. Deborah Barnes of Warren; two grandchildren; mother-in-law, Ms. Barbara A. Armstrong-Wright; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles Barnes, Donald Eugene Barnes, Ivan Sparks and Grant Barnes; and one sister, Mrs. Joyce Turner.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., with calling hours from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at St. James Church of God in Christ.

Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.

Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
