James C. Duncan 1945-2024

LEAVITTSBURG — James C. “Jim” Duncan, 79, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 2, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Jim was born Feb. 11, 1945, in Warren, a son of Benjamin and Mary Moyer Duncan.

He was a 1963 graduate of Leavittsburg High School and went on to work for Packard Electric, where he held various positions over the years. In his 33 years at Packard, he worked everywhere — from tow motorist to manning the tool crib.

In 2003, Jim retired and enjoyed a well-deserved life, free to spend more time with loved ones and taking part in his many hobbies. Outside of work, Jim was a high school baseball coach who at the beginning of his coaching career took an all-star team to Columbia, South Carolina, in 1965. This led to him being an umpire for many years. He took pleasure in golfing, wood-working and watching old Westerns. Jim also took pride in his lawn and being out in the sun. He enjoyed his daily crossword puzzles and had a real talent for trivia and “Jeopardy!” questions. Jim was a “regular” at the Panera Bread on Elm Road (a Panerian, as the family calls it), where he could be found enjoying a cup of coffee with his friends. Most of all, he loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them.

Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim will always be remembered by his wife of 59 years, Diane (Blahu) Duncan of Leavittsburg; daughters, Lisa (Donald) Gilanyi and Heidi Berger, both of Braceville; grandchildren, Zackary Gilanyi (Craig Frantz) and Skyler (Keevon) Harris; sisters, Helen Bilchak of Cape Coral, Florida, and Ruth Dunlap of Struthers; brother, Benjamin (Evelyn) Duncan of Spring Hill, Florida; along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bryan Berger; and his siblings, Maxine Holma, and Harold, Richard and Bobby Duncan.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Jim during memorial calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE. Additional calling hours will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish-SS. Mary and Joseph Church, 232 Seneca Ave. NE, Warren, OH 44481.

A funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, in Jim’s name, to Riverview Golf Course, 3903 state Route 82, Newton Falls, OH 44444, where Jim ran two senior leagues; or to the Labrae Local School District Athletic Fund, 1001 N. Leavitt Road, Leavittsburg, OH 44430, attn: Office of the Treasurer; both were very important to Jim.
