Henry J. Kost 1946-2024

BOARDMAN – Henry “Hank” J. Kost, 78, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024.

Hank was born Sept. 22, 1946, in Youngstown, a son of the late Walter J. and Anne Szymczyk Kostrzewa.

He was a proud graduate of St. Stanislaw Elementary School and Cardinal Mooney High School, Class of 1964.  He attained a Bachelor of Science degree from Youngstown State University in 1973.

Hank was a member of the U.S. Navy and afterward was an auditor for the state of Ohio Department of Taxation. He loved to keep busy and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Marci, especially to Cape Cod. He also enjoyed watching horse racing and college football, cheering on Notre Dame. Hank was also a yearly attendee of the Indy 500.

He was a member of the St. Charles’ Men’s Club, the Catholic War Vets, American Legion Post 472 in Youngstown and the senior citizens’ card club, where he was able to indulge in his love of playing cards.

Hank leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Marcianne Dishong, whom he married May 12, 1990, at St. Stanislaw Church; brother, Walter (Mary Ann) Kostrzewa Jr. of Boardman; sister-in-law, Elaine O’Brien of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; six nieces and nephews, Walter Kostrzewa III, Stephanie Deaton, Liz Mulroney and Andrew, Pat and Dan O’Brien; and 10 great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at St. Charles Church in Boardman. An hour of calling will be held 10 to 10:50 a.m. at the church.

He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hank’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
