Barbara E. Givan 1938-2024
CUMMING, Ga. — Barbara E. Givan, 86, died on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, while under hospice care in Georgia.
She was born Aug. 27, 1938, in West Farmington, the daughter of William O. Thomas Sr. and Eva L. Thomas. Since 1984, she had been a resident of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern Georgia.
Mrs. Givan was married on Nov. 10, 1984, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to her second husband, Thomas John Givan, who preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 2004.
She was employed by Ohio Lamp and the Cortland Bank, retiring as a teller from the bank in 1983. Mrs. Givan enjoyed her friends and had many beloved dogs as her companions over the years.
She is survived by her daughters, Robin L. Hopes (Don Hoefer) of Boxborough, Massachusetts, and Kathy J. Lynn of Madison, Ohio; one brother, William O. Thomas Jr. of Gadsden, Alabama; two grandsons, Alexander H. Hoefer of Boxborough and Nicholas H. Hoefer of Kingston, Massachusetts. In addition to her second husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David R. Hopes on May 11, 2017; and her son-in-law, Jeffrey Lynn on Sept. 3, 2021.
