Catherine P. Stitt
McDONALD — Catherine P. Stitt, 90, passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 22, 2024, in the comfort of her home, with her family by her side.
Catherine was born May 7, 1934, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Tod and Edna Mae Holmes Betts and spent her entire life as a proud resident of McDonald. She was a 1952 graduate of McDonald High School and had a fulfilling career working at U.S. Steel, Ohio Bell and as a secretary at Fairhaven, retiring in 2000.
A devout member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald, Catherine’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her family and the many memories they shared.
She was known for being the life of the party, always adding a special spark to any gathering. Her love for travel took her on many adventures, especially to her favorite casinos, including Atlantic City and Las Vegas, and frequent trips to Mountaineer Casino when she wanted to “go south.”
Catherine generously gave her time to her community, serving on the McDonald Schools Board of Education and as the treasurer and secretary for the McDonald Baseball League.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Attorney Kate (Richard) Harvey of McDonald; five sons, Michael Stitt of Lawton, Oklahoma, Todd (Barbara) Stitt of McDonald, Patrick Stitt, also of McDonald, James (Sharon) Stitt of Middletown and Paul (Tegan) Stitt of McDonald; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Patricia) Betts of Hubbard and Jim (Judy) Betts of Sun City, Florida; and many extended family members.
Her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Richard “Dick” Stitt, whom she married April 12, 1956, died March 8, 2016.
A daughter, Elaine Natoli; a son-in-law, Jeff Natoli; and a daughter-in-law, Pam Stitt, also preceded Catherine in death.
Catherine’s legacy of love, laughter and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Family and friends may gather to pay respects 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 618 Ohio Ave., McDonald, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
