NILES — Marian J. Mitolo, 91, passed away Friday morning, Sept. 20, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her children.
Marian was born June 24, 1933, in Warren, daughter of James and Isabelle Brutz Coates.
Marian was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School. She married Rocco C. Mitolo Sr. on July 4, 1953, a date that has been a continual family gathering ever since.
Marian was a proud homemaker, dedicating her life to her family. She loved to cook and bake delicious cakes. Marian was kind and generous to those around her. When any family member or friend said that a dish was delicious or a favorite, that dish would be at every dinner for them from then on.
In 1984, she opened Mitolo’s Flowers Shoppe. She was the proud owner and main designer. It grew to be part of area celebrations for 40 years. It was truly a labor of love and generosity. Marian worked around the clock to ensure that every occasion was special for her customers.
Marian was always involved in her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives. She was always excited to attend or hear about every play, sporting event or activity that they were involved in at the time. She looked forward to visits and holidays with her family.
Marian will always be remembered by her children, Joseph (Suzanne) Mitolo of Dayton, James Mitolo of Niles, Rocky Jr. (Cindy) Mitolo of Niles, Elizabeth (Matthew) Gruber of Belle Vernon, Pa., Isabelle Mitolo of Niles and Marian J. Mitolo Diana of Girard; 17 beloved grandchildren; 16 loving great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Mae Massullo of Brookfield; brother, Michael (Joanne) Coates of Niles; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her extended family reached far.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; Rocky, her husband of 62 years; brothers, James and Martin Coates; and sister, Isabelle Coates.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, at St. Pope John XXIII Parish-Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, 381 Robbins Ave. There will be no public calling hours and all guests are asked to arrive to the church for Mass.
